The application of the rule of law in Cambodia...
Yesterday evening, returning home at about 10pm I saw the aftermath of a crash at the end of our street. There was an ambulance (rare) and lots of Khmers standing around the scene. There was no car and so it looked like a sole drunken motorbike wobble/accident. I have read elsewhere that the rumour is that the incident was the result of a drunken Australian who drove around the Independence Monument roundabout and in his drunkeness veered into a motorbike resulting in killing two people and injuring one other. Apparently, no action will be taken as the individual is on secondment to a Governemental department or similar.... Exceptionally sad. So typical here. This is in addition to the armed robberies (day and night) going on at the moment.
